The Working People United, WoPU, a coalition of workers, professionals, and artisans in Nigeria, has endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the most viable candidate for the 2027 general elections. This endorsement was made after the 66th Independence Thanksgiving Service held at Living Faith Church in Asaba, Delta State. The event was attended by notable figures including Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and other government functionaries.
WoPU's Coordinator-General, Comrade Prince Williams Eniredonana Akporeha, commended President Tinubu's leadership over the past three and a half years, describing his administration as bold and courageous in addressing challenges that previous governments had avoided. Akporeha expressed hope for Nigeria's future under Tinubu's leadership, noting that the President has demonstrated the vision and capacity to restore Nigeria's greatness.
According to Akporeha, President Tinubu's administration has made significant progress, including the removal of fuel subsidies, which has freed up funds for grassroots development. The establishment of Nigeria's first private refinery and efforts to ensure a steady petroleum supply nationwide despite global hostilities were also highlighted. Additionally, the coalition noted the President's advocacy for state police and resource control, which WoPU believes will strengthen security, reduce corruption, and promote equitable development.
The floating of the naira has also been cited as a key policy that has enhanced Nigeria's export competitiveness, attracted foreign investment, and reduced reliance on volatile oil revenues. These credentials, WoPU believes, set President Tinubu apart from his opponents. Akporeha, the immediate past President of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), emphasised that Tinubu is motivated by national progress rather than personal wealth or power.
Akporeha further noted that President Tinubu has shown zero tolerance for religious bigotry and insecurity, and has worked to improve Nigeria's resources. He expressed confidence that Tinubu has the will to finish the job he started meritoriously. As part of its strategy, WoPU announced plans to embark on mass sensitisation campaigns nationwide to mobilise support for the President's Renewed Hope Agenda.
The coalition's endorsement of President Tinubu is based on his proven track record in both private enterprise and public service. Akporeha concluded that steering Nigeria through its current challenges requires resilience and tenacity, qualities he believes Tinubu embodies. He urged Nigerians, especially the youth, to look beyond political distractions and acknowledge the progress already being made under Tinubu's leadership.
With this endorsement, WoPU aims to mobilise workers and young Nigerians to support President Tinubu's bid for re-election in 2027. The coalition's efforts will focus on highlighting the President's achievements and vision for Nigeria's future.
