A recent survey by Polititrack Africa has ranked six candidates vying for the Nyeri senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 General Election. The poll sampled 3,619 respondents and posed the question of who voters would choose as their senator if the Nyeri senatorial elections were held today. Nick Mararo emerged as the frontrunner, claiming the top position with 820 votes, representing 22.7% of the total sample. This puts him in a strong position ahead of the highly anticipated election.

King'ori Wanjohi finished in second place with 724 votes, equivalent to 20.0% of respondents, placing him closely behind Mararo. The narrow gap between the top two candidates suggests a competitive and fragmented field, with no single candidate commanding a decisive lead. The survey results indicate that the senatorial contest is shaping up as one of the more closely watched races in the Mount Kenya region.

Nyeri governor Mutahi Kahiga ranked third with 525 votes, accounting for 14.5% of the sample, while Vincent Wamae followed in fourth position with 521 votes at 14.4%. The gap between the top four candidates is notably narrow, with only 299 votes separating Mararo in first place from Wamae in fourth. This close competition is expected to draw considerable interest in Nyeri County.

Kabando wa Kabando, a former MP, secured fifth place with 505 votes, representing 13.9% of respondents. Hon. Priscilla Nyokabi, a former commissioner, came in sixth with 324 votes at 8.9%. A combined 4.0% of respondents, equivalent to 144 people, indicated they were undecided, while 56 respondents, or 1.6%, voted for candidates categorised as "Others."

The survey was conducted ahead of the 2027 General Election, which is expected to draw considerable interest in Nyeri County. The senatorial contest is one of the more closely watched races in the Mount Kenya region, with several high-profile figures already positioning themselves for the seat. The results of the survey provide valuable insights into the current state of the race.

Polititrack Africa, which describes itself as a polling and survey platform tracking African political trends, did not disclose the methodology or margin of error for the survey. The platform's credibility and transparency in conducting the survey are essential in understanding the accuracy of the results.

In other news, the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) has set aside the decision by the Registrar of Political Parties declining to reserve the name Linda Mwananchi Movement and ordered the Registrar to reserve the name within seven days. The Tribunal found that the Registrar's decision was without legal justification and amounted to a denial of the applicants' right to form or participate in the formation of a political party.
