The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has congratulated Samson Adamu on his confirmation as the substantive General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF). This historic appointment marks the first time a Nigerian has occupied the position in CAF's 70-year history. Adamu's confirmation was announced late last week, and NFF's acting general secretary, Emmanuel Ikpeme, expressed delight and confidence in Adamu's ability to excel in the role.

Adamu joined CAF as Director of Competitions before becoming Director of Tournaments and Events. He was appointed acting general secretary on March 29, following the resignation of his predecessor, Veron Mosengo-Omba. Adamu holds a FIFA Master's degree in the management, law, and humanities of sport. His career in football administration began with establishing the Copa Lagos beach soccer tournament in the early 2010s.

The NFF's Emmanuel Ikpeme described Adamu's appointment as a significant moment for Nigerian football administration. He expressed confidence that Adamu will make Nigeria and Africa proud, and the NFF will provide him with necessary support as a member association under CAF. Ikpeme congratulated Adamu on his appointment, emphasizing the importance of this achievement for Nigerian football.

Meanwhile, the NFF Normalisation Committee, expected to spearhead major reform in Nigerian football, has faced delays in its announcement. A top source revealed that several proposed members did not pass the FIFA integrity test, causing the delay. The committee will have between seven and nine members, with possible inclusion of two non-Nigerians. Former NFF general secretary and influential NFF executive committee members are among those lobbying to head the Normalisation Committee.

The Normalisation Committee is expected to be in place by May 31, 2027. The delay in its announcement has been attributed to the FIFA integrity test, which several proposed members failed to pass. The committee's primary goal is to reorganize football in Nigeria following the resignation of the NFF executive committee led by Ibrahim Gusau.
