Abanga Fuseini Yakubu, the newly elected National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has spoken about the journey that led to his victory in the party's recent elections. In an interview on Joy News' PM Express, he shared his story of perseverance and hard work, saying that his experiences, though marked by setbacks, ultimately prepared him for his new role. Fuseini's political career began at the University of Ghana, where he served as a TESCON organiser.
Fuseini's early attempts at a political career were not without challenges. He and his opponent, Appiah Ofosu Prince, were disqualified from the TESCON presidential contest. However, this setback opened another opportunity for him when NPP National Chairman John Boadu invited him to work at the party's headquarters. Fuseini served at the headquarters from 2015 to 2022, gaining valuable experience that would later aid him in his bid for the National Youth Organiser position.
Before his latest breakthrough, Fuseini had faced several setbacks. In 2019, he contested the NPP parliamentary primaries in Aowin but lost by six votes. Three years later, he returned to contest for the position of National Youth Organiser but lost to Salam Mustafa Ibrahim. Despite these setbacks, Fuseini remained committed to his goals. He returned to Aowin and contested the parliamentary primaries, winning close to 70% to become the NPP's parliamentary candidate for the 2024 election.
Although the NPP had a nearly 6,000-vote advantage over the NDC in the constituency, Fuseini lost the parliamentary election by just 103 votes. He believes that these experiences strengthened his resolve ahead of the latest NPP national elections. Fuseini attributes his victory to his hard work, consistency, and sacrifice, saying that the party's members believe in these values and rewarded him for his dedication.
Fuseini's victory demonstrates the confidence the NPP's youth have placed in his leadership. He believes that his consistency helped build trust among delegates, who eventually concluded that he was the right candidate and gave him an overwhelming endorsement. Fuseini's approach to engaging with the party's grassroots and presenting his vision, policies, and programmes also contributed to his success.
Abanga Fuseini's journey to becoming the NPP's National Youth Organiser is a testament to the power of perseverance and hard work. He encourages others to remain committed to their goals, even in the face of setbacks. As he begins his new role, Fuseini is expected to play a key role in mobilizing the party's youth and contributing to the NPP's success in future elections.
With his new role, Fuseini will be working closely with the party's leadership, including Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP's flagbearer for the 2028 elections. Fuseini has expressed his commitment to working hard to ensure the NPP's success in the next elections, saying that if the party disappoints Bawumia in 2028, it will have disappointed Ghanaians.
