Newly elected National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has stated that "political victory is never an entitlement." He made this statement in his victory and acceptance speech after being declared the winner of the national chairmanship election. Boadu won with 47.19 percent of the votes cast, polling 2888 votes to beat his closest contender, Boakye Kyeremanten Agyarko, who garnered 2408 votes.
The election took place at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi on Saturday and ended on Sunday dawn. Boadu, a former General Secretary of the NPP, staged a comeback after losing a re-election bid as General Secretary in 2022. Other contenders, including Paul Awentami Afoko and Sammy Crabbe, polled 790 votes and 41 votes respectively. In his speech, Boadu thanked supporters for their confidence and extended a hand of friendship and partnership to those who contested with him.
Boadu emphasized the need for unity within the party, stating that there must be no winners and losers, only one NPP, united around one purpose. He outlined his vision for the party, which includes rebuilding from the grassroots, strengthening constituency structures, empowering youth, supporting women, valuing professionals, and listening to traditional and religious leaders. Boadu also stressed the importance of embracing technology while maintaining human relationships.
Justin Kodua Frimpong was re-elected as General Secretary of the NPP, winning with a massive 4486 votes, the highest votes gathered by any of the contestants. His closest contender, Sylvester Tetteh, garnered 1340 votes. Other elections included the National Vice Chairman, National Treasurer, National Organiser, National Women's Organiser, National Youth Organiser, and Nasara Organiser positions.
The newly elected executives were sworn into office on Sunday dawn. Boadu stated that his preparations for the way forward begin now and that the party must learn, renew itself, and respond courageously to a changing society. He expressed his gratitude to Almighty God and every delegate who entrusted them with the responsibility of serving as national officers of the party.
The NPP National Chairman emphasized the need to work closely with regional executives, constituency executives, external branch members, members of parliament, and other organised groups that strengthen the party. He also highlighted the importance of deepening relationships with voluntary groups, TESCON members, social media practitioners, and traditional media. Boadu stated that a modern political organisation must engage every means of communicating responsibly.
The party's youth must feel that the NPP is their home, and tertiary institutions must become centers of constructive political dialogue and leadership development. Education remains central to the NPP's philosophy and development, and they will continue to demonstrate this commitment. The party will work closely with its flagbearer, leader, and national leadership to strengthen the organisation and financial foundation of the party.
