Newly elected National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has extended an invitation to his former contenders to contribute their ideas, experience, and networks to the party as it begins preparations for the 2028 general elections. In his victory and acceptance speech, Mr Boadu stressed that the party's work towards its next electoral objective must begin immediately. He emphasized the need for unity within the party, saying there must be no winners and losers.
Mr Boadu, who secured victory in the party's national chairmanship election held at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, outlined a grassroots-focused approach to rebuilding the party. He called for stronger constituency structures and greater inclusion of various groups within the NPP. This approach aims to empower the party's youth, support women, value professionals, and listen to traditional and religious leaders.
In his speech, Mr Boadu cautioned the party against treating electoral victory as something guaranteed, insisting that success must be built through effective organisation and service to the electorate. He stated that political victory is never an entitlement, but rather must be earned through service, organisation, and credibility, and the trust of the Ghanaian people.
The newly elected leadership is expected to lead the NPP's organisational rebuilding efforts and position the party for the next general elections. Mr Boadu's return to the national executive leadership marks a comeback after he lost his bid to retain the position of General Secretary in the party's 2022 elections. He won the chairmanship contest with 2,888 votes, representing 47.19 per cent of the total votes cast.
Justin Kodua Frimpong retained his position as NPP General Secretary after securing a decisive victory with 4,486 votes. His closest challenger, Sylvester Tetteh, obtained 1,340 votes. The election results saw various candidates competing for positions within the party's national executive.
Mr Boadu's vision for the NPP includes deepening relationships with voluntary groups, TESCON members, social media practitioners, and traditional media. He aims to make the NPP a home for young people, with tertiary institutions becoming centres of constructive political dialogue and leadership development. Education remains central to the party's philosophy and development.
The NPP's new national executive leadership, led by John Boadu, is set to work closely with regional executives, constituency executives, and other stakeholders to strengthen the organisation and financial foundation of the party. The leadership will engage the business community and Ghanaian entrepreneurs with openness and respect, advancing policies that expand opportunities and enterprise.
