The State Department for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Principal Secretary Dr. Esther Thaara Muoria has inaugurated the Kaare Campus of Muraga Technical Training Institute. This development aims to increase access to technical and vocational skills for young people in Maara Constituency. The campus was established with the support of the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) under the leadership of Maara MP Kareke Mbiuki.
The Kaare Campus has already enrolled 71 trainees since its opening on September 2. Dr. Muoria commended the Kaare community for providing land for the institution, emphasizing that community ownership is crucial for expanding education and skills development opportunities. She also praised MP Mbiuki for his role in supporting the campus construction, bringing technical training closer to the community.
Dr. Muoria stressed that the focus should now be on ensuring the programs offered at the campus meet the community's needs and equip trainees with employable skills. She urged the enrolled trainees to develop practical skills, discipline, and the ability to create opportunities for themselves and others. The success of the campus will be measured by the positive impact it has on the lives of its trainees.
Muraga Technical Training Institute Principal Ms. Purity Murithi welcomed the commissioning, calling it a significant milestone for the institution and the community. She encouraged parents and young people to take advantage of the available training opportunities. The campus currently offers six courses and aims to accommodate more trainees as it expands.
However, Ms. Murithi identified a shortage of trainers and equipment as some of the challenges facing the new campus. She noted that Dr. Muoria has committed to addressing these issues. Additionally, MP Mbiuki has pledged to support the construction of workshops through NG-CDF to accommodate more trainees.
Maara MP Kareke Mbiuki stated that the new campus marks a significant step in expanding access to quality technical and vocational education for young people in the constituency. He expressed optimism that the campus will grow into a fully-fledged standalone Technical Training Institute, providing young people with practical skills and contributing to local economic development.
Other attendees, including Maara MP aspirant Nyaga Kinyua, welcomed the establishment of the campus, highlighting the importance of TVET institutions in equipping young people with practical skills and opening up opportunities for employment and enterprise. The campus is expected to have a positive impact on the community by providing accessible technical training.
