The Nigerian Army has deployed a new battalion and an artillery regiment to Kano State in a strategic move to crush banditry and other security threats in the North-west. The new military formations comprise the 24 Battalion, established in Tudun Wada, and the 311 Artillery Regiment, located in Dambatta. This development has been hailed by Senator Jibrin Barau, the Deputy President of the Senate, as a major boost to efforts to tackle insecurity in the region.

Senator Barau commended President Bola Tinubu for demonstrating his determination to confront banditry, terrorism, and other forms of violent criminality threatening lives and property across the country. He also praised the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for his visionary leadership and proactive efforts to reposition the military to address emerging security challenges. According to Barau, the establishment of the two formations is a significant step towards strengthening the operational capacity of the Nigerian Army.

The Deputy Senate President stated that the strategic deployment of the new battalion and artillery regiment underscores the commitment of President Tinubu to decisively deal with insecurity and secure the lives and property of all Nigerians. He described this move as in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda on security. Barau also praised Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, for his commitment to protecting lives and property, stressing that sustained cooperation between the state government and the military would be critical to ensuring the success of the newly established formations.

Senator Barau appealed to residents of Tudun Wada, Dambatta, and other communities across Kano State to support the military and provide the necessary cooperation to enable the new formations to discharge their responsibilities effectively. He urged traditional rulers, community leaders, and residents to strengthen their relationship with security agencies by providing timely and credible intelligence on the activities of criminal groups. This, he believes, is crucial to achieving lasting security in the region.

According to Barau, effective collaboration between the federal and state governments, as well as security agencies, remains essential to tackling the security challenges confronting the North-west. He emphasized that the fight against banditry and other forms of criminality cannot be left exclusively to the military and other security agencies, insisting that community participation is indispensable to achieving lasting security. The Deputy Senate President urged all stakeholders to cooperate fully with the military to ensure the success of the newly established formations.

Barau warned that without community support, the security agencies cannot fully defeat the criminals. He stressed that the fight against banditry and other forms of criminality is a collective one, requiring the cooperation of all stakeholders. The Deputy Senate President expressed optimism that with the deployment of the new battalion and artillery regiment, coupled with community support, the security situation in Kano State and the North-west region will improve significantly.

The deployment of the 24 Battalion and the 311 Artillery Regiment is expected to enhance the operational capacity of the Nigerian Army in Kano State and neighbouring states. The new formations will work to address the security challenges in the region, including banditry, terrorism, and other forms of violent criminality. With the renewed commitment of the federal government and the military to tackle insecurity, residents of Kano State and the North-west region are hopeful that the security situation will improve in the coming months.
