South Sudan's National Elections Commission (NEC) has made significant progress in preparations for the December 2026 general elections. The NEC has delivered over 13,000 voter registration books to three administrative areas and two states. This move aims to support the upcoming voter registration process. The distribution of election materials is part of the NEC's efforts to equip election teams across the states and administrative areas.

The voter registration books were distributed to various areas, with specific allocations made to each region. The Greater Pibor Administrative Area received 1,397 voter registration books, while the Ruweng Administrative Area received 1,364 books. The Abyei Administrative Area received 781 books. Additionally, Unity State received 3,300 voter registration books, and Northern Bahr el Ghazal received the highest allocation of 6,864 books.

Gabriel Bol Deng, Chairperson of the NEC, emphasized that the election materials include supplementary forms, laminating machines, and voter registration kits. These materials will enable election teams to conduct voter registration ahead of the general elections. Deng reiterated the Commission's commitment to ensuring that voter registration is accessible to all eligible citizens.

The NEC Chairperson highlighted the importance of voter registration in enabling eligible citizens to exercise their right to participate in choosing their leaders. He called on election officials, local authorities, civil society organizations, community leaders, and the media to collaborate in providing accurate information about where, when, and how eligible citizens can register.

The Commission's efforts aim to make voter registration accessible to all eligible citizens, including women, youth, persons with disabilities, and residents of remote communities. Deng encouraged citizens to follow official NEC announcements regarding registration dates, locations, and requirements. This will ensure a smooth and inclusive voter registration process.

This latest distribution follows the handover of the first batch of voter registration materials to the Central Equatoria State High Elections Committee on November 2, 2026. The NEC's progress in distributing voter registration materials demonstrates its commitment to preparing for the December 2026 general elections.

The NEC's efforts to equip election teams and make voter registration accessible to all eligible citizens are crucial in ensuring the success of the December 2026 general elections. The Commission's commitment to inclusivity and accessibility will help to ensure that all eligible citizens can participate in the electoral process.
