The Senegalese Minister of Land and Air Transport, Abdoul Ahad Ndiaye, announced on October 30 that nearly 7,000 members of the Youth Olympic delegations have arrived in Dakar, representing 49-50% of the expected arrivals. This update was provided during a meeting of the JOJ Mobility Task Force, which aimed to coordinate and review the transportation arrangements for the 2026 Youth Olympic Games.
The meeting, held at the Transport Operations Center (TROC), focused on ensuring the smooth movement of delegations, participants, and spectators during the Games. With some competitions starting before the opening ceremony, Minister Ndiaye emphasized that teams are fully mobilized to guarantee fluid transportation. He highlighted that several measures are being implemented to facilitate access to the opening ceremony at the Abdoulaye Wade Stadium in Diamniadio.
To ease access to the opening ceremony, 19,000 free TER (Train Express Regional) access cards have been allocated to accredited individuals. Additionally, TER services will be free for all holders of tickets to the opening ceremony, allowing them to reach the stadium easily. The TER service will also operate exceptionally late, until 3:00 AM, on the night of October 31 to November 1.
Minister Ndiaye assured that the Mobility Task Force will remain fully engaged throughout the Youth Olympic Games. Regular coordination, monitoring, and debriefing meetings will be held to anticipate needs, address any issues, and adapt the transportation system as required. This will ensure a seamless experience for all participants and spectators.
