The Nasarawa state government has announced a week-long programme of activities to commemorate the 30th anniversary of its creation. The celebration, scheduled to begin on September 25, 2026, will feature various events, including a special Jumma’at Mosque service in Lafia, commissioning of selected projects, and an inter-denominational church service. The programme aims to reflect on the state’s journey over the past three decades and renew citizens' commitment to building a more united, peaceful, and prosperous Nasarawa state.
The state deputy governor, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe, disclosed the programme during a press conference in Lafia on Thursday. As chairman of the Central Planning Committee for the celebration, Akabe highlighted the state’s significant progress in various sectors since its creation on October 1, 1996. He noted that the celebration will honour individuals and institutions that have contributed to the state’s growth and development.
The 30th anniversary celebration will provide a platform for reflection on progress recorded in education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture, human capital development, security, commerce, and investment. It will also recognise the contributions of founding fathers, past and present governors, public servants, traditional rulers, women, youths, and other citizens who have played vital roles in the state’s development.
The week-long celebration will feature a lecture by Prof. Attahiru Jega on “Nasarawa state at 30 from foundation to transformation.” Additionally, Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, will deliver a lecture titled “Unity in Diversity: Three Decades of Building a Cohesive Nasarawa State – Issues, Challenges and Prospects.”
The celebration will culminate on October 1 with Nigeria’s Independence Day celebration and the 30th anniversary of the creation of Nasarawa State. During this event, Governor Abdullahi Sule is expected to deliver an anniversary address. The programme aims to celebrate the people, cultures, resilience, and shared identity of Nasarawa state.
