The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested three suspects over the alleged forgery of an identity card belonging to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC. The arrest was made following the interception of an unregistered Lexus IS 250 in Lafia during a routine patrol by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit. The vehicle was conveying three occupants identified as Mohammed Umar, Mohammed Nuhu, and Ibrahim Suleiman.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Rahman Nansel, the suspects were arrested after Mohammed Nuhu introduced himself as an ICPC officer and presented an identification card purportedly issued by the commission. However, when Mohammed Umar, who was driving the vehicle, was questioned about its ownership, he reportedly failed to provide a satisfactory explanation. This prompted the arrest of all three occupants for further investigation.

Police investigations subsequently revealed that the ICPC identity card presented by Mohammed Nuhu was allegedly forged. The suspect reportedly claimed that he accompanied the driver from Kaduna State to Lafia because the latter did not possess a valid driver's licence. The police are currently profiling the suspects and have linked one of them to a cult group, the Eiye Confraternity.

The three suspects, Mohammed Umar, Mohammed Nuhu, and Ibrahim Suleiman, remain in police custody as investigations continue. The command said they would be charged to court, while efforts were ongoing to establish the vehicle's ownership and determine whether other offences were connected to the incident. The police are working to unravel the circumstances surrounding the forgery and the ownership of the unregistered vehicle.

The Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State Command, CP Shetima Jauro Mohamed, has reiterated the command's commitment to proactive policing, intelligence-led operations, and sustained efforts to combat crime across the state. He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide credible information to the police to support efforts to maintain security.

The incident highlights the need for increased vigilance and cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the public to curb crimes such as forgery and vehicle theft. The police have been working to strengthen their intelligence gathering capabilities to tackle emerging trends in crime. The command's efforts aim to ensure that the state remains safe and secure for residents.

The Nasarawa State Police Command's proactive approach to policing has led to the arrest of the three suspects and the recovery of the unregistered vehicle. The command's commitment to transparency and accountability in its operations has been underscored by the prompt disclosure of the incident. Further investigations are expected to reveal more details about the suspects' involvement in the forgery and other potential crimes.
