Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has inaugurated the newly completed 5.2-kilometre Akwanga-Jos bypass in the Akwanga Local Government Area of the state. The governor described the road as a strategic intervention to decongest Akwanga town and boost economic activities in the area. He explained that the bypass had reduced travel time for those coming from Keffi or Gudi to Jos by more than five kilometres.
The bypass, built to the same standard as the federal highway, is designed to withstand heavy-duty vehicles. Governor Sule promised to install solar street lights on the road to ensure the safety of motorists at night. He commended the contractor for delivering the project on schedule and within specifications, and assured that his administration would sustain its drive on both urban and rural roads across the 13 LGAs of the state.
In addition to the bypass, Governor Sule also inaugurated one-kilometre roads each in Akwanga, Nassarawa-Eggon and Wamba LGAs constructed by the local government chairmen of the respective area councils. The inauguration of the roads was part of activities lined up to mark the 30th anniversary of the state’s creation on October 1, 2026.
The Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport, Yakuba Kwanta, said the bypass would stimulate new settlements and commercial activities along the corridor. A top royal father in the area, the Chun Mada, Samson Gamu-Yare, appreciated the governor for the intervention, noting that the bypass would end motorists’ and residents’ nightmare in Akwanga.
The event was attended by the Deputy Governor, Dr Emmanuel Akabe, Senator Danladi Halilu-Envulanza, traditional rulers, commissioners, leaders of the All Progressives Congress in the state and residents of the areas. The royal father noted that the bypass would save lives and bring more development closer to the people, as Akwanga town is a gateway to the North-East and Plateau.
The chairmen of Akwanga, Nassarawa-Eggon and Wamba LGAs, Sadiyanu Isa-Andaha, Ilita Aliyu and Ezekiel Jaga respectively, appreciated the governor for granting autonomy to LGAs in the state. They promised to execute more projects that would have direct bearing on the lives of the people at the grassroots to complement the efforts of the state and federal governments.
The inauguration of the bypass and other roads marks a significant milestone in the development of Nasarawa State. The governor's efforts to improve infrastructure in the state are expected to have a positive impact on the economy and the lives of the people. The project is one of the many initiatives aimed at promoting economic growth and development in the state.
