The President of the National Association of Nigerian Students, Akinteye Afeez, has called on Kaduna youths to support and protect infrastructure projects being executed by the state government. Afeez made this appeal during an inspection of ongoing and completed projects in Kaduna by the leadership of NANS. He emphasized that these facilities are critical to students' education, mobility, and future. The inspection included the Kabala Costain-Aliyu Makama Link Road, which connects the northern and southern parts of Kaduna.
Afeez commended the Kaduna State Government for its road infrastructure projects, noting that improved road networks would make life easier for students and other residents. He highlighted that good roads mean easier and safer movement to and from institutions. The NANS president also praised the government's investments in education, transportation, healthcare, and sports. He described the ongoing rehabilitation of the Ahmadu Bello Stadium as an important investment in youth development, providing opportunities for young people with sporting talents.
The Managing Director of the Kaduna State Roads Agency, Dr. Abdullahi Baba Ahmed, provided an update on the state's road projects. He disclosed that the government had initiated 116 new road projects covering approximately 1,400 kilometers across the 23 local government areas. Ahmed stated that about 80 to 90 percent of these projects have been completed, while the remaining ones are at different stages of completion. He emphasized that the projects were distributed across the 23 LGAs to ensure development is not concentrated in a few areas.
Dr. Ahmed identified the 35-kilometer Gadan Gayan-Guraji-Kujama Road as one of the flagship projects, which includes a major bridge measuring about 120 meters across the River Kaduna. He also mentioned that the government had completed internal road networks at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and an access road to the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia. Ahmed stressed that the projects aim to improve economic activities and access to essential services.
Afeez urged the government to sustain the projects while calling on young people to protect public infrastructure. He emphasized that infrastructure is critical to students and young people, and it is essential to protect and maintain it. The NANS president also announced that the association would compile its observations from the inspection and submit its report to the Kaduna State Government.
The inspection was part of efforts by student leaders to engage governments constructively and make informed recommendations on projects affecting students and young people. The NANS delegation was led on the tour by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Ahmed Maiyaki, and other government officials. Afeez stressed that students would continue to demand more development projects, as improved infrastructure directly affects their education, mobility, and welfare.
The NANS president concluded that the association's visit aimed to assess the impact of infrastructure projects on students and young people. He expressed satisfaction with the quality and scope of the projects inspected, particularly the Kabala Costain-Aliyu Makama Link Road. Afeez reiterated the importance of protecting public infrastructure, emphasizing that it is essential for the development and well-being of the people.
