The Nairobi City County Government has announced that at least 49 categories of items have been impounded and are being held at Dagoretti Pounds. The county has given owners 14 days to collect their belongings, waiving applicable collection and storage charges ahead of a planned public auction. The notice was issued by County Secretary and Head of County Public Service Dr Machel Waikenda.

The impounded items include sausage trollies, handcarts, shoe-shine equipment, metal doors, meat jikos, push trollies, signposts, wire mesh, and M-Pesa kiosks. The inventory also includes fibre kiosks, ice cooler containers, dismantled containers, broken pieces of wood, old tyres, wheelbarrows, milk crates, assorted crates, cooler boxes, wheelchairs, and fridges. Other items held at the facility include samosa boxes and construction tools.

The county government has resolved to grant a waiver to residents whose property and goods were impounded or confiscated, allowing them to reclaim their belongings without applicable charges. The notice provides details of some of the charges previously applicable to the collection of the impounded items, including storage fees. For example, owners of sausage trollies were previously required to pay Sh50 in charges and Sh1,000 in storage fees.

The inventory further indicates charges for other items, including handcarts, M-Pesa and fibre kiosks, dismantled containers, bicycles, car wash machines, and welding machines. The county has warned that any property not collected within 14 days will be disposed of at a public auction in accordance with applicable laws and approved disposal procedures.

The notice urges members of the public to identify their property and make necessary collection arrangements within the stipulated period to avoid losing their belongings. The county government's approval of the disposal of obsolete, surplus, unserviceable, impounded, and confiscated county assets for the 2025/2026 financial year led to the public notice.

Among the items listed are also wooden chairs, second-hand clothes, belts, shoes, and handbags, used utensils, old textbooks, metal bars, stools, incomplete plastic tables, jerricans, PVC pipes, steel doors, and wooden doors. The remaining categories include wooden poles, timber, incomplete metal chairs, plastic tanks, super drums, car bumpers, welding machines, beer crates, and gas cylinders.

The county government encourages owners to collect their impounded items within the given timeframe to avoid disposal at a public auction. Failure to do so will result in the items being sold to recover costs incurred during impoundment and storage.
