The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) confirmed that one of its helicopters made a precautionary landing in Makurdi, the capital of Benue State, on Wednesday. The helicopter was returning from an operation targeting suspected kidnappers along the Enugu-Benue boundary. According to the NAF, the aircraft landed on a farmland in Utur Tse-Igboji community, Bar Council Ward, along Welfare Quarters to Mopol 13 Ring Road in Makurdi.

The operation, which took place on Wednesday, aimed to disrupt the activities of suspected kidnappers in the Ogbadigbo area of Benue State. The helicopter provided close air support to surface forces during the operation, ultimately disrupting the activities of the criminal elements and supporting the advance of surface forces. The NAF stated that the operation was a success.

The pilot of the helicopter exercised professional discretion to execute a precautionary landing approximately 10 nautical miles from the airfield, following the successful completion of the mission. This decision was made in accordance with established operational and safety procedures after combat missions. The helicopter has since returned to base.

The NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, released a statement confirming the incident. The statement emphasized the NAF's commitment to sustaining pressure on criminal elements, providing close air support to surface forces, and protecting communities through coordinated air and ground operations.

The incident occurred at Utur Tse-Igboji, Bar Council Ward, along Welfare Quarters in Makurdi, on Wednesday night. The NAF assured that the helicopter's safe landing was a result of the pilot's adherence to safety protocols. The operation's success highlights the NAF's continued efforts to enhance security in the region.

The NAF's actions demonstrate its resolve to deny criminal elements freedom of action and support efforts to restore safety and security to affected communities. The helicopter's precautionary landing is a testament to the NAF's prioritization of safety and operational protocols.

The incident is a recent example of the NAF's ongoing efforts to combat insecurity in Nigeria. The NAF continues to work towards protecting communities and supporting surface forces in their operations against criminal elements.
