Kenyan Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has praised the multi-agency team led by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) and the Judiciary for the successful prosecution and conviction of those responsible for the Shakahola Massacre. Murkomen expressed gratitude to the DPP and other agencies that worked tirelessly to secure the conviction of Mackenzie and his accomplices.
The Cabinet Secretary emphasized that the government will take firm measures to address religious extremism and radicalization while protecting the constitutional right to freedom of worship. He also applauded the Judiciary for concluding the case and called for continued collaboration in addressing issues such as gang violence, political violence, drug trafficking, and substance abuse.
Murkomen criticized the opposition for focusing on tribal politics, urging political leaders to adopt issue-based politics centered on ideas, development agendas, and track records. He encouraged them to support President William Ruto's re-election bid and emphasized that Kenya has moved beyond tribal politics.
On the fight against drug and substance abuse, Murkomen commended security agencies for intensifying nationwide operations, citing the seizure of a drug consignment worth KSh 3.6 billion in Kwale County. He acknowledged the efforts of security agencies in arresting Ugandan and Tanzanian nationals involved in the drug trade.
The Cabinet Secretary dismissed media reports alleging that National Government Administrative Officers (NGAO) officials were being politicized, instead praising them for their role in supporting the fight against crime and implementing the government's development agenda. He emphasized that their work is to communicate the government's agenda to Kenyans.
Murkomen was speaking during a thanksgiving church service at Bushiangala Church of God in Ikolomani, Kakamega County, where he assured locals that the government would strengthen security and ensure that they benefit from the region's mineral resources. He also announced that the government would work with the Mining Cabinet Secretary to provide maximum security for everyone.
