MTN Ghana is investing $1.1 billion over the next three years to expand its network infrastructure, improve service quality and extend connectivity to underserved communities across the country. The investment aims to strengthen network capacity and resilience amid growing demand for digital services. This move is part of the company's 30th anniversary celebrations in Ghana.

Of the total investment, about $380 million has been earmarked for 2026 to enhance network capacity and resilience. MTN Ghana plans to deploy 500 new cell sites nationwide this year to improve network coverage and connect more communities. This development was announced by the General Manager of MTN Ghana, Mr David Gyimah Boadi, at a regional media and stakeholder engagement in Koforidua.

The engagement, which formed part of activities marking MTN's 30th anniversary in Ghana, had the theme "30 years of progress, powered by you". Mr Boadi emphasized that the investment demonstrates MTN's commitment to providing reliable connectivity and supporting Ghana's digital transformation. He stated that the company remains committed to building a stronger, more resilient network.

Over the past 30 years, MTN has evolved from a telecommunications provider into a digital platform company. Despite this evolution, the company remains committed to addressing challenges relating to network coverage and service delivery. Mr Boadi stressed that connectivity should go beyond providing network access to creating opportunities for individuals, businesses and communities.

Mr Boadi identified affordability, access and digital literacy as significant challenges that require collaboration among telecommunications operators, the government, educational institutions and development partners. To address these challenges, MTN is investing in digital skills development, innovation and education to prepare young people for opportunities in the digital economy.

As part of its educational support, the MTN Ghana Foundation has awarded 500 scholarships to students this year, covering tuition, accommodation, stipends and laptops. Additionally, the MTN Skills Academy is equipping more than 100,000 young people with digital literacy, financial skills and career readiness. These initiatives aim to promote digital inclusion.

On the company's financial performance, Mr Boadi reported that MTN Ghana recorded a 32.3 per cent increase in service revenue to GH¢15 billion in the first half of 2026. The company's Senior Manager, Mr Prince Owusu Nyarko, welcomed participants to the forum, highlighting the engagement's role in strengthening relationships with stakeholders.
