Ghana's drive towards cleaner energy and increased adoption of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) has received a significant boost with the arrival of MT Asharami Ghana, a 40,000-cubic-metre LPG carrier, at the Tema Port. The vessel delivered 5,000 metric tonnes (MT) of LPG to Ghana as part of efforts to strengthen the country's LPG supply, enhance energy security, and support the transition to cleaner cooking fuels. This development aligns with Ghana's ambition to increase LPG adoption from about 30 per cent of households currently to 50 per cent by 2030.

The arrival of MT Asharami Ghana forms part of Sahara Group's integrated LPG infrastructure strategy, which seeks to improve supply reliability and support Ghana's energy goals. Welcoming the vessel, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, Minister for Energy and Green Transition, described the arrival as a significant step towards expanding access to cleaner energy solutions. He emphasized the need for collaboration between the public and private sectors to achieve Ghana's energy transition goals.

Dr Jinapor commended Sahara Group for standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Ghana in supporting the country's aspirations for energy security, economic growth, and sustainable development. Mr Wale Ajibade, Executive Director of Sahara Group, said the maiden voyage of MT Asharami Ghana demonstrated the company's commitment to cleaner energy, improved livelihoods, and sustainable growth. He noted that investments in LPG infrastructure were critical to meeting Ghana's growing demand for cleaner cooking fuel. The vessel's arrival signals a significant milestone in Ghana's energy journey.

Mr Ajibade mentioned that the vessel, carrying 5,000 MT of LPG, would embark on the first of several voyages intended to strengthen energy security, expand access to cleaner fuel alternatives, and support Ghana's growing energy needs. This development is expected to contribute to efforts to build a more reliable and sustainable energy future for Ghana.

Ms Yaa Serwaa Alifo, Managing Director of Asharami Ghana, described the vessel's arrival as an important milestone in Ghana's energy journey.
