One year after the launch of Morocco's major railway projects for Grand Casablanca by King Mohammed VI, the main components of the program are now underway. The project, with an investment of 20 billion dirhams (MMDH), is part of the national railway transformation plan to 2030, mobilizing a total envelope of 96 MMDH. The program includes the construction of three new-generation stations, 10 new proximity train stations, and the renovation of five existing stations.
The program also involves the creation of 260 kilometers of new railway tracks, the construction or expansion of 50 bridges, and the acquisition of 48 new trains for regional and proximity services. Three major new-generation stations are being built: Casablanca-Sud, Mohammed V Airport, and Grand Stade Hassan II. Work on these sites is progressing satisfactorily, with a planned duration of 24 months for each infrastructure.
The future Casablanca-Sud station will become a major railway and intermodal hub, with six platforms and 10 railway tracks. It will host high-speed Al Boraq trains, mainline trains, and regional and proximity services. The station will be directly connected to the tramway, high-level bus services, and bus and taxi networks, strengthening its role as an exchange platform in the metropolis.
The future Mohammed V Airport station will be a strategic link in airport service and integration of the Casablanca-Nouaceur hub into the Grand Casablanca railway network. The station will have four platforms and seven tracks, including two dedicated to the classic line, two to the high-speed line, and three to the Aéroexpress service. It will provide a smooth connection between rail and air transport.
The Grand Stade Hassan II station in Benslimane will address two major challenges: accommodating the flows generated by major events hosted by this infrastructure, particularly during the 2030 World Cup, and strengthening the service to new urban poles. The station will have two platforms and four tracks dedicated to high-speed trains during major events, as well as five platforms and six tracks for proximity trains.
The construction of 10 new proximity train stations is also underway, with work progressing according to plan. These stations are located in key areas of the metropolis, including Mohammedia Faculties, Zenata Industrial Zone, and Sidi Maârouf. Designed with a common architectural program, they will offer fluid and readable passenger paths and integrate necessary technical and safety equipment.
The Grand Casablanca program aims to profoundly evolve metropolitan mobility by strengthening network capacity, improving service to main urban and economic poles, and developing a more efficient proximity railway offer. The coordinated implementation of infrastructures, stations, and associated equipment will build a more integrated, capable, and connected metropolitan railway system.
