Morocco's Agence Nationale des Ports (ANP) and France's Agence Française de Développement (AFD) have signed a joint declaration for a €100 million financing deal. The partnership aims to develop Morocco's southern provinces and green ports. The agreement was signed in Rabat by ANP's Director General, Mustapha Farès, and AFD's Director in Morocco, Catherine Bonnaud. The deal is part of a strategic partnership between ANP and AFD.

The financing deal will support ANP's investment program from 2023 to 2030. Morocco's Minister of Equipment and Water and Forests, Nizar Baraka, stated that the partnership marks a new stage in long-standing cooperation between Morocco and France. He emphasized that the agreement will help develop the southern provinces and green ports, aligning with King Mohammed VI's vision for the region.

The program will focus on four main areas: rehabilitating and upgrading port infrastructure, developing renewable energy and non-conventional water desalination, expanding and modernizing fishing ports, and decarbonizing and electrifying ports. The €100 million loan, provided by AFD, has a 13-year duration and does not require a state guarantee.

French Ambassador to Morocco, Philippe Lalliot, highlighted the strategic importance of the agreement. He noted that the deal supports Morocco's efforts to develop its maritime infrastructure and address climate change. Lalliot also emphasized France's commitment to supporting Morocco's development across the country, particularly in the Sahara region.

The agreement confirms the confidence of international lenders in ANP's financial management and its ability to implement major investment programs. The deal also fulfills commitments made during French President Emmanuel Macron's state visit to Morocco in October 2024.

The partnership between ANP and AFD is part of Morocco's efforts to develop its southern provinces and enhance its Atlantic connections. The program aims to create economic development hubs and improve regional integration. The deal is expected to have a positive impact on the region's economy and environment.

The financing agreement demonstrates the strong relations between Morocco and France. Both countries are committed to supporting sustainable development and economic growth in the region. The deal is a significant step towards achieving these goals and promoting cooperation between the two nations.
