In a significant development aimed at improving living conditions in rural areas, Morocco's Ghersif province has launched a series of electrical projects. The initiative, led by the province's governor, Abdel Salam Hattash, and the general manager of the Eastern Regional Multi-Service Company, Monir Oukhoya, involves a substantial investment of approximately MAD 26.6 million. This project aims to connect 10 rural communities to the national electricity grid, enhancing the quality of life for local residents.
The primary component of this project involves providing electricity to 10 rural communities, with a total cost of around MAD 17.9 million. The project is financed jointly by the Eastern Regional Multi-Service Company and the Eastern Region Council. The construction work has been awarded to "ELECTRO TAFOGHALT SARL" and is expected to commence in November 2024, with a completion period of 12 months. This initiative is expected to benefit around 1,515 people, with nearly 24.2 kilometers of medium-voltage network and 13 energy conversion centers to be built.
The project also includes the construction of approximately 79.3 kilometers of low-voltage network, enabling residents of these rural communities to access electricity and improve their living standards. The communities set to benefit from this project are located in various rural areas, including Houara Oulad Rahou, Lmerija, Tadrart, and Sakak, among others. This development is part of a broader effort to promote regional equity and reduce disparities in access to basic services.
In addition to the main project, three supplementary initiatives have been planned to upgrade and strengthen medium- and low-voltage electricity networks. These projects have a combined budget of approximately MAD 8.7 million. The first project involves upgrading the low-voltage network, with a cost of around MAD 2.04 million, while the second project, costing MAD 1.97 million, focuses on reinforcing the low-voltage network.
The third project, with a budget of MAD 4.68 million, aims to upgrade the medium-voltage network in Ghersif province. These projects are expected to commence in September and November 2024, as per the scheduled timeline. The electrical infrastructure upgrade is crucial in enhancing the reliability and quality of electricity supply, ensuring the safety of networks, and expanding coverage in rural areas.
The implementation of these projects aligns with Morocco's efforts to modernize and upgrade its electrical infrastructure, particularly in rural areas. Once completed, these initiatives are expected to have a positive impact on the daily lives of residents, contributing to improved social and economic conditions. The projects also reflect the government's commitment to promoting equitable development and providing equal opportunities for all communities.
The successful completion of these electrical projects in Ghersif province will not only improve living standards but also create new opportunities for economic growth and development in the region. As Morocco continues to invest in infrastructure development, the country is likely to witness significant progress in its efforts to reduce regional disparities and promote sustainable development.
