In a recent discussion at the Council of Advisors, Moroccan parliamentarian Abou Bakr Aabid emphasized the importance of building a productive national economy capable of withstanding international market fluctuations. He highlighted the need for a comprehensive approach to achieve food sovereignty, focusing on domestic production and industrial capabilities. Aabid, representing the Socialist group in the Council of Advisors, underscored the significance of involving all regions of the country in creating wealth and job opportunities.
Aabid stressed that achieving food sovereignty requires more than just ensuring the availability of food products; it demands a robust national production and industrial capacity to meet a substantial portion of the country's needs. This approach aims to maintain purchasing power, create jobs, and reduce the national economy's vulnerability to global market disruptions and supply chain issues. He also emphasized the crucial role of the private sector as a partner in achieving national strategic objectives.
The parliamentarian praised the government's initiative to implement a territorial program for foreign trade, describing it as a vital economic and developmental lever that aligns with the government's priorities. These priorities include stimulating investment, creating job opportunities, and promoting advanced regionalization. Aabid noted that the program's significance lies not only in its announced quantitative objectives but also in its potential to transform various regions of the country into productive economic hubs.
The territorial program for foreign trade aims to create 76,000 jobs, add 84 billion dirhams to national exports, and attract 400 new exporting companies annually. Aabid called for a more equitable distribution of investment and export opportunities across different regions, enabling each region to leverage its productive and spatial potential. He emphasized the need to support small and medium-sized enterprises, cooperatives, and local producers by facilitating their access to financing, insurance, and technical and digital support.
Aabid also highlighted the importance of linking foreign trade to employment and training policies, ensuring that export growth translates into sustainable job opportunities, particularly for young people and women. He advocated for the development of logistics infrastructure, digitalization, and the promotion of the "Made in Morocco" label, as well as a shift towards products with higher added value.
As a member of the government majority, Aabid expressed his willingness to support responsible and serious public policies through discussion, proposals, and suggestions. He emphasized the need for a comprehensive national vision that connects agriculture, industry, trade, and investment, outlining the practical mechanisms for implementing these choices.
Aabid concluded by emphasizing that the goal extends beyond ensuring food availability or increasing exports, but rather building a genuine national capacity for production and manufacturing. He stressed that food sovereignty and foreign trade are essential components in serving the national economy, promoting territorial development, reducing regional disparities, and creating sustainable job opportunities.
