The Justice and Development Party, Morocco's main opposition party, reaffirmed its strong support for the contents of the Royal Palace statement issued on October 30, 2026, regarding the latest developments in the Western Sahara issue. This statement was made during the party's ordinary general meeting held on October 31, 2026. The party expressed its high esteem for the statement and reaffirmed its commitment to backing King Mohammed VI in defending Morocco's national and territorial unity and sovereignty.

The party also called on Moroccans, particularly those living in the Tindouf camps, to seize this new opportunity to reunite and resolve this fabricated regional conflict once and for all. This comes after the UN Security Council's decision 2797, which endorsed Morocco's Autonomy Initiative for its southern provinces within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty as the sole basis for negotiations. Furthermore, the party welcomed the end of the MINURSO mission and its subsequent dissolution.

The Justice and Development Party urged the current government to focus on performing its constitutional duties and addressing pressing issues affecting Moroccan society and the national economy. The party called on the government to fulfill its commitments as outlined in the electoral programs of the parties that formed it and in the government program. Additionally, the party expressed satisfaction with its performance in the recent legislative elections.

The party's general secretariat praised the responsible and honorable performance of the Justice and Development Party's parliamentary group in managing the government's program discussion and the 2027 finance bill draft. This was carried out within the framework of the party's opposition stance and its defined national roles as per the constitution and related laws.

On October 28, 2026, the Minister of Interior met with leaders of political parties to prepare for the electoral laws governing various elections scheduled for 2027. In this context, the Justice and Development Party called for considering this electoral process as an opportunity to continue the path of consolidating Moroccans' reconciliation with politics and elected institutions.

The party emphasized the need for genuine and in-depth treatment of the imbalances produced by the implementation of certain provisions in the relevant electoral laws. These include the electoral quotient, electoral threshold, and electoral lists, among others. The party aims to put an end to the fragmentation witnessed in local councils and their bureaus.

The Justice and Development Party will actively engage in the consultation process and will provide its proposals to the Ministry of Interior by November 15, 2026, as agreed upon. The party's participation in this process reflects its commitment to contributing positively to Morocco's electoral and political landscape.
