The GVCC gallery in Casablanca is hosting Moroccan artist Mehdi Melhaoui's latest exhibition, titled "Never Full", which showcases his works from 2019 to 2024. The exhibition features a collection of sculptures and murals that reflect Melhaoui's fascination with landscapes and their transformations. As an artist who describes himself as an "ecologist of the landscape", Melhaoui explores the dynamic relationships between geological processes, ecosystems, and human interactions with the environment.

Mehdi Melhaoui's artistic journey has been marked by his academic background, having graduated from the École supérieure des beaux-arts de Montpellier in 2010. Over the past decade, he has developed a distinctive style that captures the essence of landscapes in a state of constant change. His sculptures, often described as "mutations paysagères", aim to testify to the fragility of the planet and the erosion of attention to the living. The textures and forms of his works evoke the ruggedness of desert landscapes, the movement of the sea, and the patterns created by the wind.

A significant portion of Melhaoui's exhibition is dedicated to his "Westcelerity" series, which shares its name with his current research project. This body of work exemplifies his artistic approach, which seeks to capture the moment when a form appears suspended. By introducing anthropomorphic elements, Melhaoui invites viewers to confront their own presence and engage with the artwork on a deeper level. His use of materials such as bronze, steel, and stone adds depth and complexity to his sculptures.

Mehdi Melhaoui's artistic practice extends beyond sculpture to include installation and photography. His work has been showcased in various exhibitions, including solo and group shows. In 2011, the Lattara archaeological site and Henri Prades Museum in Lattes dedicated a personal exhibition to him, titled "Points d'ancrage". His piece "Boat", acquired by Montpellier Agglomération in 2010, is permanently installed in the museum's garden.

Melhaoui has participated in several notable group exhibitions, such as "Alerte Météo" (2010-2011) and "La Vie aquatique" (2017) at the Musée régional d'art contemporain de Sérignan, as well as "Passeur acte 2" (2014) at the Odile Ouizeman gallery in Paris. In Casablanca, the Galerie Venise Cadre has hosted two solo exhibitions of his work, "L'échappée du temps" (2014) and "Ninfa" (2017).

In addition to his gallery exhibitions, Mehdi Melhaoui has received commissions for public artworks. His pieces "Vague S11" (2013) in Marseillan and "Vague S7" (2015) in Palavas-les-Flots demonstrate his ability to create large-scale installations that engage with their surroundings. These works reflect his commitment to exploring the intersections between art, nature, and human experience.

The "Never Full" exhibition at GVCC gallery offers a unique opportunity for audiences to engage with Mehdi Melhaoui's thought-provoking works. By showcasing his latest creations, the exhibition invites viewers to reflect on the dynamic relationships between landscapes, ecosystems, and human interactions. The exhibition will run until October 27, providing a timely and thought-provoking experience for art enthusiasts and environmentally conscious individuals alike.
