Mombasa businessman-turned-politician Suleiman Shahbal has announced plans to leave his current party, ODM, and seek the governor's seat on a new ticket. John Mathenge replaces Thuo Mathenge as party national chairman, with Daniel Musembi maintaining his position as secretary general.
Chaani MCA Frankline Makanga confirmed that Shahbal will join The New Democrats Party and contest the governor's seat. Makanga stated that the party is ready and set for the 2027 elections, adding that they will not be blackmailed by ODM.
