MMG Kinsevere has reaffirmed its commitment to responsible mining practices by participating in a human rights due diligence workshop in Tarkwa, Ghana. The event, organized by Gold Fields Ghana, brought together mining professionals, sustainable development specialists, and experts from several African countries to discuss practical approaches to integrating human rights into mining operations and supply chains. The workshop aimed to enhance participants' understanding of human rights risks throughout the mining life cycle.

The workshop, attended by Maxwell Luh and Patrick Banza of MMG Kinsevere, covered topics such as security, community relations, employment, contract management, and responsible sourcing. Participants emphasized the importance of early risk identification, constructive stakeholder dialogue, and effective grievance mechanisms. MMG Kinsevere's participation provided an opportunity to share experiences with other mining companies and learn from best practices in different operational contexts.

According to Patrick Banza, the workshop highlighted the practical importance of integrating human rights into daily operational activities. He noted that human rights due diligence is closely linked to responsibilities such as security management, community relations, land access, and complaint handling. The workshop also underscored the need for open dialogue and effective grievance mechanisms to identify risks and build trust with stakeholders.

Maxwell Luh emphasized the crucial role of supply chains in preventing and managing human rights risks. He stressed the need to go beyond mere documentary compliance and understand the realities faced by individuals in the supply chain, including employees of suppliers, subcontractors, and transport providers. Effective due diligence enables early risk identification, encourages continuous improvement, and enhances accountability throughout the value chain.

In addition to the Tarkwa workshop, several MMG Kinsevere employees from various departments participated in a virtual session on human rights due diligence. This expanded participation contributed to strengthening the site's awareness and skills in responsible mining practices. By taking part in the ICMM initiative, MMG Kinsevere continues to enhance its capacities in responsible mining and reaffirms its commitment to aligning its practices with internationally recognized standards.

The Tarkwa workshop was part of a broader international initiative led by the ICMM. According to organizers, it was the sixth national training program focused on implementing human rights due diligence in the mining sector, following similar programs in Peru, South Africa, Australia, Canada, and Chile. MMG Kinsevere's engagement in this initiative demonstrates its dedication to promoting safer work environments, consolidating community relations, and creating sustainable value for all stakeholders.

By strengthening its commitment to human rights, MMG Kinsevere contributes to a more responsible mining industry in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The company's efforts align with the growing expectations of governments, investors, communities, and business partners to identify, prevent, and manage the impacts of mining activities on local populations. MMG Kinsevere's participation in the ICMM initiative underscores its recognition of human rights as a fundamental pillar of responsible mining.
