The Shinyanga Region in Tanzania is set to host the Miss Shinyanga 2026 beauty pageant on October 11 in Kahama District. The competition, which began on October 4, aims to promote the region's cultural heritage, tourist attractions, and investment opportunities. A total of 15 contestants have qualified to participate in the pageant from 21 women who picked up application forms.

The pageant's organizer, HolySmile executive director Arnold Bweichum, stated that the winner will represent Shinyanga in the Miss Lake Zone competition before proceeding to the Miss Tanzania stage. The winner's responsibilities will go beyond beauty, including promoting the region's cultural heritage, economic opportunities, and investment potential.

Mr. Bweichum called on the government, businesses, and investors to use the contestants to promote their products and services. He believes that such partnerships could create opportunities for contestants who do not win the crown. The competition is not only about finding a winner but also about promoting the attractions and resources available in the region nationally and internationally.

The selection process for the pageant began on October 4, and the contestants have already entered a camp in Kahama. Out of 21 contestants who submitted applications, only 15 met the requirements to compete in the pageant. The Kahama Municipal Council cultural officer, Mwaita Mwinyimkuu, assured that the council would work with the organizers to ensure the competition is conducted fairly.

The council officer urged the judges and organizers to follow the established criteria and rules and avoid favoritism to protect the credibility of the competition. Fashion and beauty trainer and one of the pageant judges, Cathbert Kowero, stated that contestants would be assessed against the set criteria throughout the camp and at the final.

One of the contestants, Editha Shusho, expressed her excitement about the competition, stating that it would give participants an opportunity to build networks, exchange experiences, and promote opportunities available in Shinyanga. If she wins, she plans to use the Miss Shinyanga 2026 platform to showcase what Shinyanga has to offer and contribute to improving incomes for individuals and the country.

Even if she does not win, Editha Shusho said she would join her fellow contestants in promoting Shinyanga's attractions and opportunities. The pageant is expected to create a platform for the region to showcase its potential and opportunities to a wider audience.
