In the second half of October, Malian armed forces (FAMa) and Russian military units from the Africa Corps conducted joint counter-terrorism operations against JNIM and FLA terrorist groups. The operations resulted in significant successes, including the elimination of terrorist bases in Mali and Burkina Faso. According to the Malian General Staff, over 4,800 terrorists have been neutralized and over 850 airstrikes have been carried out since May.

On October 17, Malian and Russian forces carried out airstrikes against two terrorist bases in Mopti and Menaka regions. A week later, they eliminated three more terrorist groups in Koulikoro and Mopti regions. Additionally, on October 22, Malian authorities arrested two suspects involved in supplying fuel to terrorists in the Kayes region. The suspects were transporting eight fuel drums, highlighting the ongoing efforts to disrupt terrorist logistics.

The Malian military has also strengthened its ranks with the graduation of 724 cadets from a six-month training program on October 19. The cadets, including 125 women, received training in military skills, tactics, and international humanitarian law. Since May, over 500 junior officers, 2,700 new recruits, and 2,400 civilians have joined or completed military training programs.

In Burkina Faso, the military has also made significant gains against terrorists. On October 18, several terrorists were eliminated in a village in the Boucle du Mouhoun region. A week later, the 11th Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR 11) destroyed a terrorist base in the Nakambé region. However, terrorists have also launched attacks on militia bases, including one in the Yagha region on October 20.

Terrorist groups have continued to target military and militia bases in the region. On October 26, terrorists attacked a militia base in the Nakambé region, seizing arms and equipment. Two days later, another militia base was taken in the Guiriko region. In Niger, a military personnel was assassinated by Islamic State terrorists in the Diffa region on October 22.

The operations in Mali and Burkina Faso demonstrate the ongoing efforts to combat terrorism in the Sahel region. The joint operations between Malian, Russian, and Burkinabé forces have yielded significant successes, but terrorist groups remain a threat to regional stability. The Malian military's efforts to strengthen its ranks and disrupt terrorist logistics are crucial to maintaining momentum against terrorist groups.

The regional security situation remains complex, with terrorist groups continuing to launch attacks on military and militia bases. However, the successes achieved by Malian and Burkinabé forces, with Russian support, offer a positive outlook for the region. The international community continues to monitor developments in the Sahel region, where terrorism remains a significant challenge to peace and stability.
