The Melcom Care Foundation has initiated a week-long outreach programme to support the nutritional needs and wellbeing of children in care. As part of this initiative, the Foundation is distributing 1,000 packed meals to selected orphanages and children’s homes across Accra. This programme is aimed at providing essential support to vulnerable groups. The Foundation’s efforts focus on enhancing the lives of children in need.

On Tuesday, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Melcom, Mr Joseph Kpormegbey, led the donation of hot packed meals to the Teshie Children’s Home. He stated that the initiative was part of the Foundation’s commitment to giving back to society and supporting vulnerable groups. The Foundation has undertaken various donation activities throughout the year, targeting specific sectors of society. This year’s outreach has been dedicated to orphanages and children’s homes.

The Melcom Care Foundation’s week-long programme involves visiting several children’s homes and orphanages. On Monday, the Foundation visited the Osu Children’s Home, followed by the Teshie Children’s Home on Tuesday. Further visits to other selected children’s homes and orphanages are scheduled for Thursday. The programme will culminate on Friday at the Accra Rehabilitation Centre, where another donation will be made.

The Melcom Care Foundation focuses on health and education as its major areas of support. In addition to donations, the Foundation offers scholarships to brilliant but needy students as part of its community support efforts. Mr Kpormegbey expressed the hope that the Foundation would be able to do more for orphanages and other less privileged people in society in subsequent years.

Mr Kpormegbey appealed to individuals, corporate organisations, and well-meaning members of the public to support children’s homes across the country. He noted that some homes operate on limited budgets and require continuous support to meet the needs of the children under their care. The public’s contributions can help such institutions continue providing care and support for vulnerable children.

The Administrator of the Teshie Children’s Home, Mr Moses Lamptey, received the packed meals and appealed to individuals and the government for financial support. He stated that although the home receives considerable support in the form of food items, financial assistance remains a major challenge. Mr Lamptey expressed appreciation to the Melcom Care Foundation for their generous donation.

Mr Lamptey urged other organisations and individuals to emulate the Foundation’s gesture and support children’s homes to help build a better future for the children. He noted that the home has faced challenges in securing adequate support since its establishment, but public awareness about its work is gradually increasing. The donation by the Melcom Care Foundation has put smiles on the faces of the children, demonstrating love and concern for humanity.
