A significant medical operation was conducted in Klobatème, Togo, on October 24, 2026, providing free specialized healthcare services to the local community. The initiative, a collaboration between Lomé Conteneur Terminal (LCT), the 29th Chinese medical mission to Togo, and the Golfe 1 municipality, aimed to bring medical care closer to the people and improve access to health services. The event took place at the Klobatème Medical and Social Center (CMS), which was built by the municipality and has been operational since July 2026.

The medical mission offered a range of services, including general medicine, internal medicine, general surgery, gynecology, and orthopedics. Traditional Chinese medicine was also provided through acupuncture sessions. Laboratory tests, such as blood glucose checks, were conducted, and patients received free medical consultations and pharmaceutical products. The initiative was attended by local authorities, traditional leaders, medical personnel, and Chinese partners.

According to Joseph Koamy Gbloekpo Gomado, the mayor of Golfe 1, over 600 people, mostly women, benefited from the medical operation. The mayor stated that the initiative achieved its dual objectives of facilitating access to specialized care and promoting the CMS de Klobatème. He emphasized the importance of collaboration with health authorities to ensure the center's smooth operation and continuity of services.

The Klobatème Medical and Social Center is currently managed by the Ministry of Health, in line with the principle of sharing competencies between the state and local authorities. Mayor Gomado highlighted the need for close collaboration with health authorities to guarantee the center's effective functioning and the continuity of services offered to users.

Lomé Conteneur Terminal's involvement in the medical operation is part of its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) strategy, which prioritizes community health. The company's director, Dr. Roumanatou Bello, stated that the initiative is a continuation of the partnership between LCT and the Golfe 1 municipality, aiming to support the CMS de Klobatème and provide medication to patients.

The partnership between LCT, the Chinese medical mission, and the Golfe 1 municipality demonstrates the importance of cooperation in healthcare to strengthen local capacity to care for the population. The initiative also aims to encourage the use of CMS services and promote sustainable support for local health structures.

The medical mission's impact will be prolonged through follow-up care for patients, with the CMS personnel providing continued support, accompanied by LCT as needed. This approach ensures that the effects of the campaign extend beyond the single-day consultation event, ultimately improving healthcare access and conditions for the Klobatème community.
