The Centre Joie de Vivre, a Mauritian organization that supports children and young people with disabilities aged 5 to 21, has launched the Green Skills for Tomorrow project. This initiative aims to transform an agricultural land into a training and integration space for people with disabilities and single mothers. The project's primary objective is to impart agricultural know-how, enhance autonomy, and open up future prospects for its beneficiaries.

The Centre Joie de Vivre, managed by the Association des Malades et Handicapés de l'Est, has been in operation for 40 years. The organization has already seen 17 former students secure employment or develop artisanal activities. However, 62 former beneficiaries still lack a stable future project. Marilene Sakir, secretary of the Centre Joie de Vivre, emphasized that the Green Skills for Tomorrow project seeks to develop skills, promote autonomy, and facilitate professional integration.

The agricultural center, located in Côte d'Or, will serve as a practical training and integration space for adults with disabilities and single mothers. The center will focus on teaching respectful agricultural techniques, irrigation systems, and infrastructure management. Beneficiaries will acquire skills in soil preparation, planting, crop maintenance, harvesting, and product marketing under the guidance of specialized educators and experienced adults.

Through the Green Skills for Tomorrow project, beneficiaries will develop professional and social competencies, including autonomy, responsibility, teamwork, punctuality, and respect for instructions. The project aims to foster social and professional inclusion, enhance autonomy, and provide beneficiaries with the opportunity to engage in productive activities that generate income.

According to Marilene Sakir, learning agriculture will enable people with disabilities and single mothers to acquire skills, gain independence, and improve their living conditions while promoting social inclusion. The project will provide beneficiaries with practical and professional skills tailored to their capacities, allowing them to participate in concrete and rewarding activities.

To bring this project to life, the Centre Joie de Vivre requires financial support to purchase necessary equipment, establish sustainable irrigation systems, and develop infrastructure. The organization plans to recruit specialized trainers and educators to accompany and train beneficiaries. The project aims to support around 200 people, ultimately impacting not only the beneficiaries but also their families and the broader community.

The Centre Joie de Vivre hopes that the Green Skills for Tomorrow project will promote a more inclusive, supportive, and equal society, where the capacities of people with disabilities are valued. The initiative is expected to have a positive impact on the community, providing beneficiaries with a sense of purpose, autonomy, and hope for a better future.
