A fatal collision occurred on the road to Laventure in Mauritius on September 28, involving a van driven by Munsoor Ramzan and a bus operated by the Compagnie nationale de transport (CNT). Ramzan, affectionately known as Shafick, was killed in the accident while driving his van on his daily delivery route. The vehicle was severely damaged, and Ramzan was trapped inside, requiring the intervention of firefighters to extricate him.

The accident resulted in injuries to over 15 occupants of the bus, including the driver and conductor, who were taken to the SAJ hospital in Flacq for treatment. The conductor and driver sustained serious injuries to their arm and face. Ramzan's family had been preparing to celebrate his 71st birthday on October 1, but instead, they accompanied his funeral procession. His wife, 68, and sons, Ziad, 41, and Azim, 30, are among those mourning his loss.

According to Ziad, his father was a hardworking man who always put his family's needs first. Despite struggling with poverty in his youth, Ramzan worked tirelessly to provide a decent life and education for his children. He began his day at 6 am and continued working despite his advanced age. Ramzan had previously worked as a tea planter, sugarcane farmer, and baker, delivering bread, burgers, and sandwiches.

Ramzan's sons remembered him as a diligent and trustworthy individual who continued to work on his family's farm. He encouraged his sons to adopt modern agricultural practices, leading to the family's venture into hydroponic farming of tomatoes in Mont Ida. Ramzan was also a devout man who performed his daily prayers and had made the Umra pilgrimage twice.

In addition to his family and farming commitments, Ramzan was actively involved in his community, serving as vice-president of the Union musulmane and managing donations to those in need. His social and religious contributions have left a lasting impact on those who knew him. An occupant of the bus described the accident, stating that it occurred in rainy and foggy conditions, resulting in a loud impact that caused the bus to overturn.

The accident could have had more severe consequences, but fortunately, it was limited to the two vehicles involved. Ramzan's family and friends are now grieving the loss of a man who was known for his energy, humility, and dedication to his community. His legacy will be remembered through the lives he touched and the lessons he imparted to his family.

As the community mourns Ramzan's passing, his family takes comfort in the memories of his remarkable life and achievements. His story serves as a testament to the importance of hard work, family, and community involvement.
