The Prime Minister of Mauritania, Mokhtar Ould Diay, has stated that the recommendations from the commission of inquiry into the fires at two electric transformation posts in Nouakchott will be implemented. The measures include administrative actions against those responsible and judicial proceedings against those who have contravened regulations and legislation.

During a meeting of the ministerial commission tasked with monitoring the crisis, Ould Diay specified that administrative measures would be determined based on responsibilities arising from administrative errors and involuntary negligence. Judicial proceedings, on the other hand, would concern infractions that justify prosecution under the laws in force.

The Prime Minister has called for the repair of the two damaged power plants and the implementation of preventive measures to avoid similar incidents in the future. He emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into the causes of the fires and the identification of those responsible.

In addition to the immediate measures, Ould Diay has ordered the development of an organizational and development plan for the Mauritanian Electricity Company "Somelec". The goal is to improve the quality of service and increase the efficiency of investment project management.

The Prime Minister's statements follow a meeting of the ministerial commission, after President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani received the final report and heard a presentation of its conclusions and recommendations. The President had previously ordered the publication of the report in the greatest transparency and the rigorous implementation of its recommendations.

The fires at the electric transformation posts in Nouakchott had caused significant disruptions to the power supply in the city. The government has been working to restore power and prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

The implementation of the recommendations will be closely monitored, and the government has assured that it will take all necessary steps to prevent similar incidents and ensure a reliable power supply to the citizens of Mauritania.
