The municipality of Tkoubereh in Mauritania's Korokl state has announced its plans to launch a new campaign at the start of the new academic year. According to Tkoubereh Mayor Hamza Jaafar, the municipality's significant investments in school infrastructure have motivated them to launch this campaign. The investments have exceeded 200% of the total school infrastructure built in the municipality since its inception. This includes a complete school built four years ago and 49 classrooms, some of which are still under construction.
Mayor Jaafar stated that the new infrastructure will be operational this year, except for six classrooms awaiting a decision to open the middle school for the upcoming academic year. Additionally, 18 classrooms are part of the second phase of an emergency program, bringing the total number of classrooms to 73. This represents a significant increase of over 200% in educational infrastructure.
Despite these achievements, two areas in the municipality still lack access to schools. However, one of these areas is already included in the second phase of the emergency program. Mayor Jaafar has pledged to make efforts to enable the other area to access education with the start of the new academic year.
The mayor also highlighted the significant national achievements in educational infrastructure since President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani took office. A total of 6,000 classrooms have been put into service, with another 3,000 nearing completion. These developments demonstrate the government's commitment to improving education in Mauritania.
