In the Mauritanian commune of Kangaba, a meeting was held to discuss the implementation of investment projects funded by the Mining Development Fund. The meeting, convened by Prefect Abou Dao, brought together mayors, traditional leaders, youth representatives, women, and civil society members from the commune's eight districts. The agenda focused on a circular letter dated October 16, 2026, outlining the fund's investment projects approved by the National Monitoring Committee.

The circular letter, read and translated into the local Bamanankan language, detailed the financial resources allocated to the communes for investment projects. As a result of the National Monitoring Committee's second session, funds were made available to regional treasurers for distribution to commune receivers. Specifically, Yacouba Berthé, representing the local tax collector, stated that 97,270,147 FCFA had been allocated to the eight Kangaba communes.

According to Berthé, the allocated resources cover not only investment costs, including studies, project implementation, and monitoring, but also operating costs for monitoring committees and activity tracking. The mayors of the communes are responsible for managing the fund's resources for investment projects and committee operations. However, expenditure on committee operations is contingent upon a validated budget, approved by the committee's president, the prefect.

To ensure successful project implementation, the prefect urged technical services to collaborate with communes. He recommended prioritizing local enterprises and companies, and if necessary, those from the region or nationally. The prefect emphasized that projects must commence by the end of October and be completed by the end of 2026.

The meeting also addressed the issue of illegal mining activities in the area. The prefect urged permit holders, mayors, and village chiefs to promptly halt unauthorized excavations using machines such as pelleteuses. This call to action aims to regulate mining activities and promote sustainable development in the region.

As part of the Mining Development Fund's efforts to promote local development, the Kangaba meeting demonstrated the government's commitment to transparently managing funds and engaging local stakeholders. By involving various community groups, the meeting fostered a collaborative environment for project implementation and monitoring.

The successful execution of these investment projects is expected to have a positive impact on the local economy and community. With the prefect's guidance, the communes are poised to effectively utilize the allocated funds, ensuring that the projects are completed on time and to a high standard.
