The Malian Ministry of National Education has taken a significant step towards enhancing educational resources for its young students. On November 3, the Minister of National Education, Amadou Sy Savané, presided over a ceremony at his office in Bamako, where 400,000 notebooks designed for reading, writing, and mathematics were distributed. These notebooks are intended for students in the first and second years of fundamental education.

This initiative is part of the Project for Improving the Quality and Results of Education for All in Mali (MIQRA), financed by the World Bank to the tune of 445 million FCFA. The project aims to improve educational outcomes across the country. The notebooks, published in eight titles and available in both French and Bamanankan, are designed to reinforce basic learning skills, particularly in reading, writing, and elementary mathematics.

Minister Savané emphasized the importance of these educational materials in strengthening fundamental learning. He urged school administrators to ensure an equitable distribution of the notebooks and to monitor their use closely. Additionally, he encouraged teachers to integrate these notebooks into their daily teaching practices to maximize their effectiveness.

The coordinator of the MIQRA project also highlighted the necessity of ensuring that the notebooks reach the students and are used in classrooms. She pointed out that merely storing the notebooks in a warehouse does not fulfill their purpose; their value lies in being used by students under the guidance of teachers.

This distribution of notebooks is part of a broader set of initiatives undertaken by the MIQRA project. Previous actions have included construction, rehabilitation, extension, and solar electrification of school buildings, as well as the provision of whiteboards and teaching materials. These efforts are aimed at creating a more conducive learning environment for students.

The MIQRA project's interventions are designed to have a lasting impact on Mali's education sector. By providing both infrastructure and educational materials, the project seeks to address some of the critical challenges facing the sector. The distribution of notebooks is seen as a direct way to support teachers and enhance the learning experience for students.

It's worth noting that Mauritania is not involved in this particular educational initiative, which is focused on Mali. The project underscores Mali's commitment to improving its education system with the support of international partners like the World Bank.
