The training course, organized by the Mauritanian Commission for Human Rights, Humanitarian Action, and Relations with Civil Society, aims to enhance the capacities and expertise of 25 leaders from civil society organizations in Nouakchott. The course covers concepts of humanitarian action and rapid intervention mechanisms. This initiative aligns with the country's efforts to empower civil society organizations to contribute effectively to humanitarian and developmental endeavors.
The course is part of the commission's action plan to train and structure civil society organizations, in line with the priorities of President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani's "Ambition for the Country" program. According to Ahmed Salem Ould Akhthor, a representative of the commission, the goal is to equip leaders with the necessary skills to enhance their organizations' performance and institutional capacities.
The training course features presentations on humanitarian concepts and rapid intervention mechanisms, designed to enhance participants' understanding of humanitarian principles and response strategies. The course targets leaders of civil society organizations from the three Nouakchott wilayas, seeking to strengthen their capacities to address humanitarian challenges effectively.
Mohamedou Ould Sidi, head of the Non-Governmental Actors Forum, praised the commission's efforts to promote and train civil society organizations. He encouraged participants to benefit from the course content and share acquired knowledge and expertise with their respective organizations, thereby enhancing their performance and institutional capacities.
Ould Sidi also called for continued training and capacity-building efforts, enabling civil society organizations to benefit from national expertise and international experiences through courses conducted both domestically and abroad. This, he believes, will further strengthen their ability to address humanitarian and developmental challenges.
The opening ceremony was attended by several civil and human rights authorities, underscoring the government's commitment to supporting civil society organizations. The course is expected to conclude in three days, with participants anticipated to gain valuable insights and skills to enhance their humanitarian work.
The Mauritanian Commission for Human Rights, Humanitarian Action, and Relations with Civil Society has planned similar training courses for civil society organizations in the northern and southern Nouakchott wilayas for the following week.
