The National Rural Development Company (Sonader) and the National Technical and Vocational Training Agency (Tekwin) have signed a partnership agreement to provide training to 30 retired personnel from Mauritania's armed forces and security services. The program aims to equip these individuals with skills in agricultural project management and machinery operation. This initiative is part of a broader effort to support the development of rural areas and promote sustainable agriculture practices.
The training program will consist of a practical phase, which will take place at Sonader's regional office in Rosso from September 24 to December 11, 2026. A total of 12 beneficiaries will receive training in agricultural project management, while 18 will learn about the operation and maintenance of agricultural machinery and equipment. This phase of the program is designed to provide hands-on experience and equip participants with the skills needed to manage and maintain agricultural projects.
According to Sonader's Director General, Hamada Ould Didi Ould Sid Ahmed, this agreement will enable the beneficiaries to leverage the company's expertise and capabilities in the agricultural sector. He emphasized Sonader's commitment to supporting this initiative and mobilizing resources to achieve its objectives. The program is expected to have a positive impact on the lives of the retired personnel and contribute to the development of Mauritania's agricultural sector.
Mohamed Mahfoud Ibrahim Ahmed, Director General of Tekwin, highlighted the importance of partnerships between professional institutions and the productive sector in promoting skills development. He noted that this agreement reflects a shift towards practical training and skills development, moving beyond traditional classroom-based instruction. This approach is expected to enhance the employability and productivity of the participants.
The partnership between Sonader and Tekwin has already yielded positive results, with over 85 retired personnel from the armed forces and security services trained in previous phases. The current phase focuses on practical training within professional establishments, building on the success of previous programs. This collaboration demonstrates the commitment of both organizations to supporting the development of Mauritania's workforce.
The training program is expected to have a lasting impact on the lives of the participants, enabling them to contribute to the development of Mauritania's agricultural sector. By acquiring skills in project management and machinery operation, the beneficiaries will be better equipped to manage and maintain agricultural projects, promoting sustainable agriculture practices and improving food security.
