An Accra Circuit Court has remanded Emmanuel Ahadzie, a 51-year-old managing director, into police custody for allegedly conspiring with two others to defraud his employer of one million dollars. Ahadzie, along with Akponu Kwaku Joseph and Guo Nian Ming, also known as David, allegedly collected the money under the pretext of supplying six heavy-duty Sino trucks but failed to do so. The court did not take his plea, and he is expected to reappear on October 13, 2026.

According to the prosecution, Ahadzie's employer, Moses Kwame Williams, the Chief Executive Officer of Service Machinery Ghana Limited (SMGL), was defrauded of the amount. Williams, a resident of Baatsona-Spintex, reported the incident to the Police Intelligence Directorate on September 28, 2026. Following sustained intelligence and surveillance, Ahadzie was arrested. Preliminary investigations established that Ahadzie allegedly planned with Ming to send a pro forma invoice to Williams to facilitate payment of the $1 million without raising suspicion.

The prosecution told the court that in April 2026, Ahadzie and his accomplices agreed to collect one million dollars from Williams under the pretext of supplying him with six heavy-duty Sino trucks. On April 17, Ahadzie allegedly persuaded Williams to open an account at CalBank and deposit the money into Ming's account. After receiving the money, Ming allegedly failed to honour the agreement to supply the trucks.

Ahadzie has been charged with conspiracy to commit crime, namely defrauding by false pretences, and defrauding by false pretences. The court heard that efforts are underway to arrest the two accomplices, Akponu and Ming, who are currently at large. The prosecution said Williams petitioned the Police Intelligence Directorate for investigations, leading to Ahadzie's arrest.

The accused persons allegedly collected the money from Williams under the pretext of supplying him with six heavy-duty Sino trucks but failed to do so. Ahadzie, a resident of Spintex, was the managing director of SMGL, while Williams was the CEO of the company. The prosecution said Ahadzie's actions were in breach of the trust placed in him as managing director.

The case has been adjourned to October 13, 2026, for further hearing. Ahadzie will remain in police custody until then. The Ghana News Agency will continue to monitor the case and provide updates as more information becomes available.
