The Malian Police have successfully solved three murder cases that occurred recently in Bamako, the capital city of Mali. According to the Director General of the National Police, Youssouf Koné, several suspects were arrested within 24 to 48 hours, and the cases were presented to the press on Wednesday. The police investigations were able to uncover the motives behind the murders and identify the perpetrators.
The first case involves the murder of Broulaye Doumbia, a 23-year-old hair salon owner who was found dead in a drainage ditch behind a restaurant in the ACI 2000 area on October 14. The police investigation revealed that Doumbia was shot in a furnished apartment before his body was abandoned at the scene. Six suspects were arrested, including a 21-year-old former soldier who confessed to the crime, citing a attempted rape as the motive.
The second case concerns the murder of Moctar Fofana, a 53-year-old shopkeeper from Djélibougou, whose body was discovered in his shop on October 18. An 18-year-old student was arrested and detained two days later. According to the police, the suspect acted in a context of blackmail, as the victim threatened to release compromising sexual videos filmed without his consent. The suspect also claimed to have been sexually harassed by the victim since he was 17.
The third case involves the disappearance of Boubacar Ly, a 23-year-old man whose alert was posted on social media. On October 26, police from the Sébénikoro and ACI 2000 commissariats arrested several suspects after investigating the alert. Five young men were initially apprehended, including the main suspect, a friend of the victim. The crime was reportedly linked to a financial dispute over the sale of a vehicle worth 30 million CFA francs.
According to the police, the main suspect in the third case had previously been known to the police for having fatally run over a police officer in 2023. He was detained along with other suspects, bringing the total number of suspects arrested in the three cases to multiple individuals.
