The health sector in Mali's Commune II of Bamako has received a significant boost with the installation of solar kits in three community health centers. The centers in Bakaribougou, Bozola, and Hamdallaye now have a permanent electricity supply, thanks to the social initiatives of President of the Transition, General Assimi Goïta. This development has been welcomed by Zoumana Sissoko, agent in charge of current affairs in Commune II, who sees it as a valuable support to improving working conditions for medical personnel and patient care.

The solar kits were officially handed over to the health centers on October 29, 2026. The initiative aims to address a major concern for healthcare structures in the area, which previously struggled with energy shortages. The equipment includes solar panels, batteries, inverters, and accessories, and is expected to significantly improve the provision of healthcare services. The installation is part of a broader effort to improve the healthcare system in Mali, with similar initiatives already implemented in major hospitals in Bamako and regional capitals.

Before the installation of the solar kits, healthcare workers faced significant challenges due to energy shortages. In Bakaribougou, midwife Diala Diallo described the difficult conditions in which staff accompanied women in labor, often using torches and phone lights. The new equipment is expected to greatly alleviate these challenges. In Bozola, CSCom president Wahab Touré praised the initiative, noting that electricity bills had previously consumed a significant portion of the center's resources.

The installation of solar kits has brought significant relief to healthcare structures in Commune II. In Hamdallaye, medical chief Diakaridjia Koné expressed gratitude and hoped that this initiative would continue to benefit other healthcare structures. The handover ceremony was attended by Commissioner-Colonel Cheick Mamadou Chérif Tounkara, Director of Administration and Finance at the Presidency of the Republic, and other officials.

The social initiatives team reported that the operation covered around 50 solar positions, comprising panels, batteries, inverters, and accessories. The equipment was entirely produced by Malians for Malians. Commissioner-Colonel Tounkara emphasized the importance of proper maintenance to ensure the durability of the equipment.

The installation of solar kits in the three community health centers marks a significant improvement in their operating conditions. Zoumana Sissoko noted that this initiative demonstrates the importance attached to the healthcare needs of the population and represents a valuable contribution to strengthening the community healthcare system.

The health sector in Mali is expected to continue benefiting from initiatives aimed at improving healthcare services. The installation of solar kits in community health centers is a significant step towards addressing energy shortages and ensuring the provision of quality healthcare services to the population.
