The Alliance for a Sovereign Republic (ARS) and its partners, including the Association for the Promotion of Interveners in the Field of Optics in Mali (APIDOM) and the Moroccan Association for Visual Care (M.A.V.C.), have launched a free ophthalmological caravan in Mali. The initiative, which began on October 26, 2026, aims to provide free eye consultations and distribute glasses to those in need. The launch event was held at the ARS headquarters in Djélibougou and was attended by several dignitaries, including the Ambassador of Morocco to Mali, Driss Isbayene.

The caravan is part of the month of October, which is dedicated to solidarity and the fight against exclusion. The initiative is expected to improve access to eye care and alleviate the suffering of vulnerable populations across the country. According to Djigui Diarra, the sous-préfet of the 1st arrondissement, the program is a humanitarian effort that aims to bring eye care closer to communities. The program includes free consultations by qualified health professionals, early screening for common pathologies, and the distribution of free corrective glasses.

The program also provides orientation and care for cases that require surgical interventions or more in-depth care. The initiative is expected to have a significant impact on the lives of many Malians who suffer from eye problems but cannot afford to seek medical attention. The launch event was attended by several high-ranking officials, including Oumarou Togo, the mayor of Commune I of the Bamako District, and Souleymane Dembélé, a member of the CNT.

According to Djigui Diarra, the health of the population is a precious asset for the development of any society, and eye health is particularly important. He noted that many people suffer from vision problems, which can be a major handicap in daily life. The sous-préfet also emphasized that the program is a concrete act of solidarity that aims to touch the hearts of citizens.

Oumarou Togo, the mayor of Commune I, also spoke at the launch event, highlighting the importance of the caravan. He noted that many citizens suffer in silence from eye problems or pathologies such as cataracts due to lack of means to consult a specialist. The mayor expressed his full support for the initiative, which he believes is essential for the well-being of the population.

Boubacar Ba, the president of the ARS, also spoke at the launch event, emphasizing the importance of access to eye care. He noted that many people suffer from vision problems that could be easily corrected or avoided. The president of the ARS also highlighted the objective of the organization, which is to ensure that the financial situation of individuals is not an obstacle to their eye health.

The free ophthalmological caravan is expected to continue its activities across the country, providing much-needed eye care to vulnerable populations. The initiative has been well-received by the population, who see it as a concrete act of solidarity. The program is a significant step towards improving access to eye care in Mali and alleviating the suffering of those who suffer from eye problems.
