The Ministry of Health and Social Development in Mali has relaunched its free medical consultations and medication donations for vulnerable populations. The fourth edition of this initiative was inaugurated on October 24, 2026, at the 26-Mars Stadium in Bamako, under the leadership of Minister Assa Badiallo Touré. This program aims to provide accessible healthcare to those in need, offering various medical specialties, including general medicine, cardiology, diabetes, and hypertension.
The initiative, part of the Month of Solidarity and Fight Against Exclusion, offers free consultations in several medical specialties, including general medicine, cardiology, diabetes, hypertension, and cancer screening for breast and cervical cancer. Physiological services are also provided. In 2025, the program successfully treated 43,289 patients, with 27,811 receiving general medicine consultations, 5,375 in ophthalmology, 850 in cardiology, and 1,524 for diabetes.
Minister Assa Badiallo Touré commended the commitment of healthcare teams and highlighted the government's efforts to improve access to healthcare. She emphasized the importance of this operation in prevention, awareness, screening, orientation, and patient care. The minister also encouraged teams to continue their engagement with the population. For the 2026 edition, the ministry aims to surpass the previous year's results, with over 34 million FCFA worth of medication mobilized.
The program features mobile clinics to reinforce healthcare services, including free consultations and cancer screenings for women. In addition to the Bamako event, free medical consultations will be organized in other parts of the country, within healthcare facilities and adapted spaces, to benefit vulnerable populations. This nationwide effort seeks to ensure equal access to healthcare.
The 2025 results demonstrate the significance of this initiative, with 43,289 patients receiving care across various specialties. The ministry is determined to exceed these numbers in 2026. By providing free consultations and medication, the government aims to alleviate the healthcare burden on vulnerable populations.
The program's impact extends beyond medical care, promoting awareness and education on various health topics. By engaging with local communities, healthcare teams can address specific health concerns and provide targeted support. This comprehensive approach enables the ministry to assess the effectiveness of its initiatives and make data-driven decisions.
As the fourth edition of the free medical consultations comes to a close, the Ministry of Health and Social Development looks forward to continuing this vital work. With the support of healthcare teams and the mobilization of resources, the ministry remains committed to improving healthcare accessibility for Mali's most vulnerable populations.
