The Centre de Coordination et de Gestion des Crises (CECOGEC) was inaugurated on September 21 in Bamako by Mali's Minister of Security and Civil Protection, General Daoud Aly Mohammedine. The CECOGEC is a key coordination body for the Malian government in emergency situations, including natural disasters, health crises, and security threats. It operates under the authority of the Prime Minister and is overseen by the Ministry of Security. The center's renovation was carried out with technical and financial support from Huawei, positioning it as one of the most modern facilities in West Africa.
The modernized center features advanced technologies, including a 360-inch screen wall capable of displaying over 74 video feeds simultaneously, an emergency call system, and radio georeferencing technologies. The center also has expanded video coverage in strategic regions such as Ségou, Sikasso, and Mopti. Additionally, dedicated spaces for different security forces and experts, along with a permanent backup power supply, ensure 24/7 service continuity.
During the inauguration ceremony, guests witnessed a presentation of the completed projects, a traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony, and a simulated intervention broadcast on large screens. This demonstration showcased the immediate effectiveness of the new system. The minister highlighted that these new facilities will enable real-time information gathering and dissemination to ministerial departments and the army's general staff.
General Daoud Aly Mohammedine expressed his satisfaction with the significant progress made, which will enhance the anticipation and rapid response capabilities of defense and security forces. He recalled the center's crucial role during the 2024 floods and the fuel crisis, emphasizing that the new installations will improve information centralization and real-time reporting.
The director of CECOGEC, Colonel Issa Raoul Dana Dabo, detailed the technical advancements that have replaced outdated equipment from 2012. The center now relies on cutting-edge technology, including a large screen wall, emergency call systems, and georeferencing technologies. These upgrades mark a significant improvement in the center's capabilities and position Mali at the forefront of crisis management in West Africa.
The modernization of CECOGEC aligns with the instructions of Mali's President of the Transition, General Assimi Goïta, to elevate the center to international standards. The new facilities demonstrate Mali's commitment to bolstering its security sovereignty with modern tools, prioritizing anticipation and population protection.
