Allied Peoples Movement (APM) presidential candidate and Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has launched his "Reset Agenda" for Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections. Speaking at the APM North-Central town hall meeting in Lafia, Nasarawa State, Makinde outlined his vision for a four-year transitional government of national unity. He aims to completely overhaul the nation's security architecture, economic management, and education system.
Makinde emphasized that the 2027 presidential election will be determined by ordinary Nigerians seeking genuine governance, rather than campaign wealth or the influence of political heavyweights. He stated that his administration will prioritize targeted support for women in agriculture, market women, widows, and physically challenged individuals. Makinde also challenged the federal government's economic policies, asserting that increased revenue allocations to state governors have not translated into reduced hunger for average citizens.
The APM candidate described his governance model as a short, focused four-year transitional shift. He argued that a similar transformation was achieved in the past when a head of state ended military rule and ushered in democracy within 10 months. Makinde's "Reset Agenda" aims to be completed within a single four-year term, culminating in new players and a new agenda for sustainable development.
Makinde criticized current federal fiscal planning, particularly recent defense expenditures. He alleged that arbitrary military divisions were set up in mid-2026 without prior budgetary planning. In contrast, Makinde highlighted his public consultation model in Oyo State, which he believes is more effective.
APM National Chairman Yusuf Dantalle expressed support for Makinde's national ambition, describing Oyo State as his "laboratory." Dantalle urged voters to evaluate Makinde's infrastructural and economic record in the state. He also noted that Makinde's choice of running mate, Lawal Daura, brings a critical security background to complement his economic management skills.
However, Makinde faced criticism from his former ally and former Special Adviser, Comrade Adebayo Titilola-Sodo. Titilola-Sodo, now the governorship candidate of the Action Alliance (AA), accused Makinde of breaching trust by unilaterally picking an "outsider" as his preferred successor in Oyo State for 2027. He also criticized the Makinde administration's management of local government funds.
Despite internal opposition, Makinde maintained that his administrative experience in Oyo serves as proof that his proposed national "Reset Agenda" can deliver rapid economic turnaround and security for all Nigerians within a single four-year term. His campaign is gaining attention as the 2027 elections approach.
