The 2026 Hair and Body Care Exhibition and Cultural Day, organised by the Nigerian Beauticians and Hairdressers Association (NBHA) Oyo State Chapter, took place on Thursday, November 5, 2026, at the Tennis Court of Lekan Salami Sports Complex in Adamasingba, Ibadan. The event brought together beauty professionals, entrepreneurs, and cultural enthusiasts to showcase traditional and contemporary African beauty practices. The exhibition's theme was "Celebrating Our Culture Through Beauty, Unity and Tradition."
The First Lady of Oyo State, Engr. Mrs Tamunominini Olafunke Makinde, served as the Guest Speaker and Mother of the Day at the event. She addressed participants on the importance of preserving cultural identity and promoting unity. Her participation highlighted the significance of supporting women-led businesses and recognising the contributions of beauticians and hairdressers to entrepreneurship and economic development in Oyo State.
Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) candidate for Oyo Central Senatorial District, and Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi, the governorship candidate, also attended the event. Ajadi commended the association for organising an exhibition that combines cultural preservation with business development. Adekanmbi chaired the event, while Ajadi was the Special Guest of Honour. Both pledged their support for the association and its members.
The NBHA Oyo State Chapter President, Chief Mrs Toyin Oladapo, described the exhibition as an opportunity to celebrate the people's identity, traditions, and heritage while promoting unity and business development among members. She emphasised that traditional hairstyles, adornments, fabrics, and beauty practices represent important aspects of African history and creativity.
Oladapo expressed appreciation to the First Lady for honouring the association's invitation and acknowledged the association's founder, Yeye Oba Olubunmi Adesanya (JP), for her vision, sacrifices, and dedication to establishing the organisation. The exhibition provided a platform for beauty professionals to showcase their skills and promote African cultural heritage.
The event aimed to promote entrepreneurship, empower women, and advance the beauty and personal care industry. The trio's participation demonstrated their commitment to supporting small-scale entrepreneurs, particularly women and young people, through initiatives that create economic opportunities and promote self-reliance.
The beauty and personal care industry has considerable potential to contribute to job creation and economic growth. The exhibition and cultural day celebrated the people's identity, traditions, and heritage while promoting unity and business development among members of the Nigerian Beauticians and Hairdressers Association.
