The annual August Meeting tradition, which brings women across South-east Nigeria together to discuss issues affecting their families and communities, has been expanded by MAGGI this year. The company reached 19,670 women through an experience combining food, practical nutrition, and celebration. This move marks the largest August Meeting engagement by MAGGI to date.
MAGGI partnered with 30 women's associations across five South-east states and held five market activations, more than doubling participation from the previous year. The events featured receptions with cooking competitions, music, gifts, and appearances by notable women Ruby Ojiakor, Blessing Obasi, and Blessing Onwukwe. All three women are from South-east Nigeria and brought their connection to the culture and significance of August Meeting to celebrations across the region.
Food was central to the experience, with culinary sessions introducing fresh and creative approaches to familiar meals. Cooking competitions gave participants the opportunity to showcase their skills and creativity. Practical nutrition sessions complemented the festivities, focusing on nutritious choices within household budgets. Discussions covered balanced diets, micronutrients, and planning family meals.
The practical nutrition sessions emphasized the importance of micronutrients, including iron, and simple considerations for planning family meals. Participants explored the role fortified foods can play as part of a varied diet, including MAGGI products fortified with iron. This was a valuable experience for the women, who play a crucial role in strengthening families and preserving traditions.
Funmi Osineye, Category Manager, Culinary, Nestlé Nigeria, highlighted the significance of August Meeting, saying it creates an important space for women to come together, learn from one another, and share experiences. For MAGGI, being part of this tradition is especially meaningful as they mark 60 years in Nigeria. The experience brought together culinary inspiration, practical nutrition knowledge, and the shared joy of food and community.
The celebratory spirit was reflected across different locations, with participants enjoying the food, gifts, and shared experience. Blessing Onwukwe, who joined the August Meeting celebrations in Enugu and Ebonyi states, described the experience as wonderful. Christianna Nwibo, an Executive of the Catholic Women Organization Nwofe, Ebonyi State, also praised the MAGGI experience, saying the food was delicious and the gifts were wonderful.
Over six decades in Nigeria, MAGGI has found different ways to engage with the people who have made the brand part of their everyday lives. The company's commitment to engaging with local communities is reflected in its expanded August Meeting engagement, which has set a new benchmark for future events.
