The region of Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra has been officially declared a "region without slums" after the completion of a slum eradication program in Es-Semara. The program benefited 4,357 families in the El Rbib and El Gouiz neighborhoods. This achievement was announced by Minister of National Territorial Planning, Urbanism, Housing and City Policy Samir Belfkih and Minister Delegate for Housing and City Policy Fatima Saadi.

The slum eradication program included the demolition of 3,724 shacks and provided 2,453 families with houses and 1,904 with equipped land plots. The program was supported by a financial contribution of nearly 687 million dirhams from the ministry. This initiative is part of the High Royal Orientations aimed at consolidating the principles of territorial justice and ensuring development that benefits all citizens.

The declaration of Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra as a region without slums follows the declaration of Es-Semara as a slum-free city. This achievement demonstrates the importance of concerted action to improve living conditions, promote development, and strengthen social inclusion in the southern provinces. Belfkih and Saadi visited the region to follow up on the progress of development projects.

During their visit, Belfkih and Saadi inspected the progress of a project to upgrade under-equipped neighborhoods in the city, with a total budget of 84.86 million dirhams. The project includes road and sidewalk development, creation of green spaces, and public squares. They also visited the construction site of the rehabilitation of Boulevard Hassan II.

The ministers also visited the Es-Semara Institute of Training for Specialized Technicians in Architecture and Urbanism, where they learned about the infrastructure and training programs offered by the institution. This visit is part of a two-day trip by the two government members to the region to monitor the progress of development projects.

The projects implemented in the region aim to improve living conditions and promote the quality of urban and rural spaces. Belfkih emphasized that the commitment to the Moroccan identity of the Sahara and the service of the national cause is also reflected in the realization of concrete development projects that meet citizens' aspirations for decent housing and improved living standards.

The visit by Belfkih and Saadi highlights the government's efforts to address social and economic challenges in the southern provinces. The region's development is a priority for the government, which is working to promote social inclusion and improve living conditions for residents.
