La Pleasure Beach, a popular entertainment facility in Ghana, is expected to reopen within the next three weeks, according to its management. The announcement comes after a demolition exercise was carried out by the National Security on Friday, 2 October, following a request from the Labadi Beach Hotel. The hotel had requested that structures it described as encroachments be cleared from its beachfront.
The demolition exercise was carried out after the Labadi Beach Hotel requested that encroaching structures be cleared from its beachfront. Communications Director of La Pleasure Beach, Abdul Rahman Ashittey, said the facility's reopening would largely depend on the speed at which the debris is cleared and the necessary facilities are restored. He mentioned that the debris is expected to be cleared within the week, allowing management to proceed with the installation of booths and toilet facilities.
According to Mr Ashittey, the restoration process could be completed within three weeks, provided the debris is cleared as scheduled. He stated that the National Security has promised to clean up the entire beach, allowing La Pleasure Beach to continue its operations. The management had engaged vendors and advised them against erecting permanent structures on the beach once operations resume.
The financial contribution of La Pleasure Beach to the La community was also highlighted by Mr Ashittey. He noted that proceeds from its activities had helped to establish a development fund. He questioned how the community would continue to generate funds for development projects if activities at the beach were to remain suspended permanently.
Management of La Pleasure Beach has engaged various stakeholders, including the National Security Coordinator, the Regional Minister, the Local Government Minister, the Chief of La, and the management of the Labadi Beach Hotel, as part of discussions to determine the way forward. This engagement aims to find a solution that will allow La Pleasure Beach to operate while also addressing the concerns of the Labadi Beach Hotel.
The demolition exercise at La Pleasure Beach has been a contentious issue, with various stakeholders expressing their views on the matter. The Member of Parliament for La Dade-Kotopon has protested the demolition, stating that authorities were not informed. Others have called for compensation for the victims of the demolition.
La Pleasure Beach is a significant entertainment facility in Ghana, and its reopening is expected to bring relief to the community. The facility's management has assured that it will take necessary measures to ensure that operations resume smoothly. Key stakeholders have been engaged, and a plan is in place to restore the facility to its former state.
